Tomorrow I’m going to a luncheon. Doesn’t that sound spiffy?
Not just any old luncheon, either. I’m attending the second annual LiveWell Colorado EatWell@School Fundraising Luncheon. Obviously it’s a fundraising function, but it also serves to celebrate the winners of the Denver Public Schools EatWell@School cooking competition. The nine-week contest challenged Denver high school students to cook healthier school meals. With support from volunteer mentor chefs, student teams learned how to prepare school lunch menus that followed public school lunch standards, and either met or exceeded USDA nutrition guidelines, all while staying within similar budgets.
As an attendee, I’ll get to taste the winning menu, and hopefully meet some new friends active in the local health and wellness community.
Yeah, I’m a lady who lunches.
